Made from Scratch Lemonade

"Made from Scratch Lemonade"

My sister Valerie reminded me to tell people what made from scratch REALLY means.
Be sure to scratch something and swish your hand through the lemonade to get the
best results.  A good recipe for a smooth, clear lemonade with just the right balance of sweet and tart.  Makes one gallon and serves about a dozen glasses.

8 large lemons
2 cups white sugar
filtered water source
Gallon sized serving container.

Slice one lemon and place the slices in your serving container.
Slice the remaining lemons in half and squeeze the juice and strain it to remove any seeds and most of the pulp.
Place 4 cups of filtered cold water in a sauce pan on the stove.
Add 1 3/4 cups sugar. May need to go up to 2 cups for those who have a real sweet tooth.  Add the strained lemon juice.
Bring this mixture to a boil just til all the sugar is well and completely dissolved in the solution. Pour over the lemon slices in the container.
Add the remain container full of filtered water. I add the remaining 1/4 container of crushed ice.  Stir well. Allowing it to chill before serving brings out the flavor.
